Why Hire a Licensed Plumber?
July 6, 2020
You need plumbing work done on your home. Your father is offering to help and so is your neighbor down the street. Your friend also gave you the number of their handyman. “You’ll save money,” they say, but is their work really as good as a licensed plumber’s?
A professional, licensed plumber is not to be underestimated. If you hire an unlicensed plumber and they cut corners or use the wrong parts, the kind from your local hardware store instead of a plumbing supplier, and their work fails; for example, if leaks start to surface or if exposed pipes burst, you could end up spending thousands of dollars, which all could have been prevented if you hired a licensed plumber in the first place.
“At one point in history, plumbers were considered as important as doctors,” says Ike Casey, executive vice president of the Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors Association. “Waterborne diseases are extremely serious, and it’s critical to have clean water and proper plumbing. We’ve taken that for granted in this country, but if you have someone who’s not trained, improper plumbing could create a very serious health problem.”
Don’t Go for the ‘Lower Price’
There are plenty of people who are not licensed but work on plumbing anyway. They tend to offer lower prices than licensed plumbers, but they aren’t offering the quality workmanship that comes with a licensed plumber. Unlicensed plumbers put a bad name out there for honest, licensed plumbers. They may spend money on a fancy website, but they lack the training and quality workmanship.
Whenever you hire a plumber, it’s critical to hire one who is properly licensed, otherwise, you’re taking a big risk, health-wise and financially. Here in Massachusetts, we have three types of plumbing licenses, including the Apprentice, Journeyman, and Master Plumbing License.
At Winters® Home Services, we are fully licensed contractors. Our Master License # is 12078. To schedule a service call with a true professional, call 617-221-5899.
