Signs You Need a New Furnace
October 31, 2022
As we head into winter, the last thing you need is for your furnace to breakdown. We’re coming up on the time of the year when you need your furnace most. In most cases, it’s the only thing standing between you and freezing outdoor temperatures.
That’s why it’s extremely important that you make sure your furnace is ready to make it through another winter. If it’s not, you need to have it repaired or replaced before the bitter cold winter days and nights arrive.
How Do You Know It’s Time to Get a New Furnace?
There are a few common signs you can look for if you are trying to figure out if it’s time to get a new furnace, including the following:
- Age – In general, furnaces last for 15 to 20 years. If your furnace is around that age or older, it’s probably time to replace it. If your furnace is still working after 15 or 20 years, it’s usually only a matter of time before it breaks down for good. The last thing you want is for that to be a day or night when it’s freezing cold outside.
- Energy Bill – The older a furnace gets, the less efficient it becomes. This often translates into higher energy bills. This is because the less efficiently your furnace runs, the more energy it will need to get the job done.
- Cold House – Older furnaces don’t do a good job of heating your home. The heat they provide is often uneven. If your home just never feels warm enough, no matter how much you run the heater, you may need to call a technician to come take a look at your furnace.
- Dusty – Furnaces have filters. These filters are used to remove airborne particles from the air the furnace warms. If you notice that your home is getting dustier and dustier no matter how hard you work to keep it clean. You may need to replace your furnace filter. If the furnace filter isn’t the problem, you may need to replace the furnace.
